Like canaries in a gilded cage, growing fat on seed. But now the bars are closing in, and we must take flight. ✧ Which is it that men cannot live without? A blessing that leads to damnation, or a freedom that leads to deprivation? Final Fantasy XVI JOURNAL: DISCORD: PLURK: TIMEZONE: GMT-5 // CST TAG STYLE: Present tense, brackets.

Joshua began life as the sweetest bean you can imagine. Kind, caring, thoughtful. He was born sick and suffers a life long illness, which he stubbornly ignores much to his physicker’s chagrin. However, when he was an infant he awoke as the Dominant of the Phoenix, one of 8 hosts to powerful Eikons. This means he can transform into a giant fire bird and rain fiery death down upon people. It also means he can heal people. He cannot bring people back from the dead. Being the Phoenix is not at all important and doesn’t shape the entirety of his life(lie). It’s not like his dutchy reveres the Phoenix above anything(also a lie). Through a terrible series of events Joshua loses his family, his kingdom, and his life at the tender age of 10. Sorta. Joshua awakens from a magic coma and spends the rest of his life searching for and protecting his older brother in his fight against God™.
He is both a sweet bean and a little shit. He's got mad little brother energy. He's got mad grandson energy. He's just a tall little guy who wants to study ruins, but will fight God if it helps protect his brother. Joshua began life as the sweetest bean you can imagine. Kind, caring, thoughtful. He was born sick and suffers a life long illness, which he stubbornly ignores much to his physicker’s chagrin. As he has grown older Joshua has only gotten more compassionate and determined. Although he was born into a life of privilege, especially having awoken as the Dominant of the Phoenix, Joshua has not let power go to his head. The opposite happened, actually. He believed he was only given power and respect, that people only believed in him, was because he is the Phoenix, a mere happenstance of birth. He views himself very pessimistically, and grew up thinking his older brother Clive, whom he adores, would have made for a much better Phoenix. He has an indominable will and a strong moral compass. Despite looking up to and loving his brother as much as he does, Joshua is not afraid to tell Clive off when he thinks the man is being stupid, or selfish, or self-sacrificing. Joshua also isn't afraid to question and go against authority. In fact, he does it often. If it doesn't make sense to him he doesn't follow it. Very much a man who marches to the beat of his own drum. Even fear doesn't stop him- once he almost drowned as a child, yet every year afterwards he would return to the same spot to play around the water. It doesn't wane when he gets older, after barely making it out of a Fallen Ruin with their lives Joshua wants to go back in and continue investigating. Joshua can be a bit socially awkward, having grown up sheltered within his family estate, having missed 5 years of his adolescence, then traversing the Realm while hiding his identity. It shows up in how he greets people, where he will get down on a knee and kiss the hand of a girl because he thinks it is what he is supposed to do, or how he asks some questions with zero tact and zero awareness of the tact being nonexistent (you can't just ask why someone doesn't have a slavery brand, Joshua!!).
-Swordsmanship -Chocobo riding -Knows the incantation needed to share a message with someone directly to their mind as long as he has his hand over their forehead. Wields both fire and healing magic. Such bangers as: -illumination -offensive spells: --Fire, Fira, Firaga, Firaja, a fire hyperbeam, etc -barriers -sealing a god within his chest -manifest feathers -share a portion of his power through "blessing" Semi-Prime Can enter an empowered state by calling upon a part of his Eikon's Power, yet not fully transforming into the legendary beast itself. Takes less aether than fully Priming, it also takes less of a toll on him body. Joshua takes on some aspects of his Eikon, glowing red and orange, with the Phoenix's tail sprouting from him. Priming Joshua can transform his living flesh into that of the Phoenix. The strength gained from priming is immense and usually reserved for fighting other Dominants, or God. The toll extracted for such fare is heavy as it draws upon Joshua's body's own aether, thusly speeding up the crystal's curse/petrification process.
